To become an ASHI member, a home inspector must have completed at least 250 home inspections and commit to following the organization's practice standards and code of ethics. ASHI members are required to complete continuing education classes on new professional skills, technology and materials.

ASHI also seeks to increase consumer awareness about just what a home inspector does and how their services can benefit homeowners not just during a sales transaction, but for planning, remodeling and new additions, and for scheduling and budgeting home maintenance.
